February Manga and HaccaWorks* Goodies

With the Yoneda Kou releases,  I knew I had to get my hands on some new manga.

  • NightS – I’m ecstatic to have this in print. The color pages for each oneshot are retained, so it’s a beautiful release.
  • Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai 1 – includes color pages as well. Since the related oneshots are included, it only goes up to Saezuru chapter 3. Volume 2 soon?!
  • Tsumasaki ni Hi – ballet bros want to bang from onBlue. Bought.
  • Shiny Star 1 – the hot pink, undies, and porno star cowboy hat sealed this deal
  • Kuma ni Koi Shita Boku – having sex with a man wearing a bear head. Okay, I’m intrigued
  • Honto no Tokoro – I want more Yukimura lately
  • 10 Dance 1 – love this. elegant, yet hot
  • Tokyo Shinjuu 1-2 – I like this series: the art, the characters, the overall story… if I can find some time, I want to write something about it.
  • Raiatea – gorgeous character designs
  • Cor Leonis – Shishi no Sinzou – I’ve seen the raw, but I grabbed my own copy as I’m itching for more unique character designs like the guy on the cover these days.
  • GUSH peche Busakawa Uke – along those lines, I purchased this “ugly uke” anthology. Except no one was ugly. The only ugly thing about this was my reaction. I’m pretty pissed about this one.
  • Liar x Liar 4 – such drama, but I find it highly entertaining. They just need to have crazy sex at this point.
  • Silver Diamond Gaiden – I’m scared to read this, as it will really be over then…
  • Torch Song Ecology 2
  • Aoki Umi no Torawarehime 1
  • Gokuraku Nagaya
  • Kore wa Koi no Hanashi 7
  • 5-ji kara 9-ji made 6
  • Akaya Akashiya Ayakashino 2 – Sagano gets some screen time!
  • Shitsuren Chocolatier 6 – I will catch up, I will catch up, I will catch up…
  • Honey – more Meguro Amu
  • Romantica Clock 1 – her drawing style has changed quite a bit since Atashi wa Bambi
  • Zettai Renai Program 1-2 – reading random shoujo junk food manga is tradition for the upcoming spring break
  • Sekine-kun no Koi 4 – Kawachi Haruka! I feel starved for her stuff lately, so I’m glad to see Sekine-kun.

I also grabbed some HaccaWorks* goodies that they made available on StellaWorth, including some clear files and a small calendar. I need to figure out some way to display the top two pictures. I love the colors.

I didn’t want to order anything for a month or two after this, but I’m worried about the Tokyo Shinjuu sequel being sold out quickly, so I might have to.. we’ll see.

  1. Oh gosh, I love your taste, my fabulous manga sistah! I always check out every title you mention liking, and I’m never disappointed. By the by, I’m so very happy with Kori wa Koi no Hanashi! I wish more mangaka were able to present such mature, deep romance. I also appreciate the lack of bishounen. Not that I have a problem with bishounen, but man, it’s nice to see a MANLY man in manga. (I’ve been on a quest to find “bara-esque” men as the romantic interest in shoujo or josei. Difficult.)

    • Thanks! I judge mostly by enjoyment and not everyone likes the same stuff, so I’m glad you haven’t hit any bad ones. Sometimes the stuff I buy at random isn’t very good, so it is probably best to watch if I give a quick approval or not.

Kore wa Koi no Hanashi is a good one and I enjoy how he has a rough, scruffy, almost dark look to him. We need more of that in our romance manga. I wish the “ugly cute” trend wasn’t so confined to BL manga. Shoujo/josei romance manga sometimes do the “scary face, squishy heart,” but big bulky guys like Takeo from Ore Monogatari!! are rare.

  2. Yoneda Kou’s manga :D.
I can’t stop staring at the cover with Yashiro…

  3. Hi, I’ve been stalking your blog and tumblr lately, and found many good titles of BL and Josei manga (especially for BL genre which is quite new for me, and turned out I’m addicted! ❤ I really have underestimated this genre).
    You've got such a good taste 🙂

I wonder if you have any recommendation on BL manga/mangaka which is kinda similar with Yoneda Kou's. I'm recently impressed by Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai, it gets me heartbroken.
I personally like her short-(black)-haired guys and the-unpredictable-character-Yashiro. And also her decision for having a rather dark/tragic story for a BL manga.

Oh, and anyway, I like Oyaji too, glad I'm not alone 😀

    • Thanks! I’ve found that BL in particular you can’t trust what is popular, so it sounds like you’re on the right track in figuring out what you like (and don’t like) and following those trends. I tend to find both extremes in the BL genre, the best manga and the absolute worst. I’m glad you’ve found it has many merits though.

Like Yoneda Kou? Hmm, I don’t necessarily know any obscure works, so you might have read all of these already. I’d think Minekura Kazuya and Wild Adapter (technically not BL). Nakamura Asumiko’s Double Mints, Kyuugou’s Acid Town, Yamashita Tomoko’s Mo’some Sting all are not shy about going into dark territory. Perhaps some other titles that focus on the psychological aspect Saezuru has would be J no Subete, Akane Shinchi Hanaya Sange, Zankoku na Kami ga Shihai Suru (not BL technically), or Cut (by Kawai Touko–disclaimer that I read that like 10 years ago, ha). When I think unpredictable, I think of several Nishida Higashi manga like Tenshi no Uta or Division. Well, that’s what I got off the top of my head.

  4. Hello. HaccaWorks* clear files are adorable! Where did you buy them from? I checked StellaWorth but it seems that they don’t do international shipping.
